Optionally available, the Fife Servo-Center transducer provides the operator with a means of temporarily centering the payoff reel or tension reel for start-up. The transducer can easily be mounted on intermediate guides if desired. When the system is switched to "Center," the coiler or guide is automatically shifted to its midstroke position on command of the Servo-Center transducer. The guide or coiler remains centered until another mode of operation is selected.

The Fife sensor positioning system is a subplate-mounted, stacked, hydraulic valve package used in driving a double-acting hydraulic cylinder or motor for remote positioning of the sensor. It is electrically operated with circuit selection providing two, independently adjustable speeds (a single-speed version in available). Integral check valves are provided to hold a desired position indefinitely, May be used for any positioning job requiring flows up to 5 gpm(19/min).

The Fife manual-automatic circuit is standard in all Fife automatic strip guiding systems. The manual mode permits operator control of the strip position by means of push buttons or toggle switches at the operator control console, simplifying setup operations. Switching to automatic places the system under automatic control of the sensor.

Other Fife options available to metals processors include remote guide position and strip position meters, tearout and strip end detectors, etc. Alarms are available for low hydraulic oil level, low oil pressure, high oil temperature, dirty filter element, sensor lamp contamination, and others. Everything necessary to accomplish complete, accurate strip guiding for uncoil, intermediate, and recoil operations is available from Fife.

Many of the systems described in this brochure have been standardized in such a way that detailed, descriptive specifications and system drawings are available at the time of quotation. Complete standard system drawing packages and maintenance manuals can be supplied promptly after receipt of order, if required. When the guiding systems of devices must be customized to fit into predesigned or existing framework or meet certain specifications, the drawings will be individually scheduled. As an option drawings are available on disk or CD-ROM.
